Back in DS1 bows were quite useful tools for PvE but not really viable at all in PvP. I've heard bows have been somewhat improved since the last…It is almost as if the Black Bow functions like there is a suppressor attached to it!!! Very strange, but for me the flat trajectory of the arrows it shoots plus this strange stealth ability mean I will be using the Black Bow permanently and take it up to +15 when I have farmed the Darkwraiths long enough to produce a Titanite Slab! r/darksouls.

Also a +15 composite bow with 40 dex and up to 28 str will not out damage an enchanted Lightning Bow (lightning damage is very good) but the difference is negligible and with +15 you remain consistent. +15 out damages fire with 28 str and 40 dex. Range is a gameplay mechanic in Dark Souls. It pertains only to bows and their falloff damage. Range has two components: damage drop-off over range and arrow flight trajectory. The higher the range a bow possesses, the more damage it will do to far-away targets and the straighter the arrow will fly, making it easier to hit targets at a distance, too. Certain bows, such as the Composite Bow ... You would think one day Fromsoft would make bows actually viable. Sure they added some cool arrows but then they go and remove all Scaling from bows. There is basically not a single bow with above a D Scaling in either Strength or Dexterity. Every Bow is basically a Quality Weapon. What is with Fromsoft's hate for Bow Builds? Bows are practically not viable at all unless you're using ...There are a few scenraios where it outclasses some bows... if you have low dex (18) and Strength at 40 and faith at 30, it outclasses the Black Bow of Pharis either divine or occult so you may as well save the two dex points if you just need a bow...However, the other bows outclass it and need less requirements...Longbow does more damage, and the shortbow/composite bow way outclass in damage ...Darkmoon Bow. Unlike its DS3 counterpart, the darkmoon bow in this installment is actually usable! Interestingly, it scales with faith in DS1, and its base damage values make it a perfectly viable and balanced bow. It also has plenty of range but still fires as fast as a short bow.
If you want to do damage and have heaps of souls to buy ammo, just use the dragonslayer bow. If you want a dexterity scaling bow, then a +15 bow of pharis is pretty decent. It has long range, and does decent damage if you use red tearstone ring. Quickdraw and Sniper, the former fire faster while the later fire further. Comp Bow, Darkmoon Bow, and Short Bow are considered Quickdraw. Everything else is Sniper.
